Four words, location, food, views, atmosphere, describe the new place to stop – the jetty where the water meets the land. Fresh fish, caught and landed daily from Mudeford Quay; seafood including local oysters, shrimps and lobster; and superb grills cooked in The Jetty’s charcoal oven, will be at the heart of the fabulous new restaurant. The waterside terrace is a place to gather; open a bottle, share a pile of seafood in the sea breeze, eat a char-grilled steak and simply sit back and chill.
Location – literally on the water’s edge of the estuary at Mudeford in the grounds of Christchurch Harbour Hotel, The Jetty has walls of glass to drink in the views. The waterside terrace is a place to gather; open a bottle, share a pile of seafood in the sea breeze, eat a char-grilled steak and simply sit back and chill.
Food – local chef Alex Aitken and his unique touch with food arrives in Dorset after many years of working across the county border in Hampshire. Now, Alex will be leading the team at The Jetty. Superb fish landed each day; well reared meat cooked in the charcoal oven; a menu with plates and bowls to share. Simply great food, chosen with a deep knowledge of the area, for impeccable flavours including platters for two - from the sea Smoked, Cured and Poached Fish, from the land Cured, Potted and Smoked Meats, and from the garden Home Made Hummus with Crudités.
Views – impossible to escape from. Every corner – across the water, bobbing boats, seabirds dipping and wading, Hengistbury Head in the distance, a natural landscape and seascape, and a wide sky at night with twinkling stars reflected in the water for added romance. The Jetty has one of the most perfect locations on the South Coast and the building’s green credentials are impeccable – views are the side order with every choice on the menu.
Atmosphere – chilled, unpretentious, friendly people, warm welcome, a place to come back to time and again – local food sourced by Alex and his team for the best flavour of the area, a bar with an equally interesting wine list, relaxed seating, corners for impromptu suppers, drinks at lunchtime, late afternoons in the sunshine on the terrace and all the time views, views, views.
The Jetty will be the best neighbourhood restaurant, bar and grill around.
